Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman has announced that he will not run for the position of Nevada’s next Governor.  He made the announcement Monday afternoon from his 10th floor office at City Hall.

The mayor said that he reached his decision Sunday night and that part of his decision not to run was because he did not want to be away from his family. His wife Carolyn and his children and grandchildren would not have made the move to Carson City.

Today, a group of volunteers were to begin collecting signatures to place Goodman on the ballot. The mayor said he couldn’t send them out knowing that he wasn’t going to be running in the election.

Under term limits, Goodman’s third and final term as mayor ends in 2011.
